HOW CAN THE RULE OF 80/20 BE USED TO QUICKLY LEARN LOTS OF SONGS?

The short answer is that many of your favorite songs use the same chords over and over again. Additionally, popular music often uses a well-worn musical structure, giving listeners a sense of familiarity. Believe it or not, you can play so many songs using only 4 chords! Sometimes a hit song contains less than 4 chords. Yes, you heard read it right; there have been hit songs (we’re talking top 10 charts hitters) that can contain less than 4 chords. So many popular hits use just a handful of chords, so once you master these basic chords, you are going to be able to play tons of songs!

REALLY? WHAT SONGS CAN I POSSIBLY PLAY
 WITH ONLY 4 CHORDS?

Yes, really. You can and will be able to play lots of great songs using only 4 “core” chords! The songs on the next few pages are played using G Major (G), D Major (D), E Minor (Em) and C Major (C). By adding a capo (pronounced cape-o) to your guitar, you can still play these same core chords, but raise or lower the pitch of the song depending on your musical preference.
